LOS ANGELES DirecTV has tapped Neal Tiles as executive vice president of marketing, sources said.

Tiles, 38, had been executive vice president of marketing for Fox Sports Networks. He joined the network in Los Angeles in 1997. During his time at Fox Sports, Tiles led an agency review that resulted in the selection of Cliff Freeman and Partners in New York in 1997 and also oversaw relationships with agencies including Omnicom's TBWA\Chiat\Day and Interpublic Group's Foote Cone & Belding.

Tiles referred calls to DirecTV. Representatives for the digital satellite service provider in El Segundo, Calif., did not return calls.

Eric Markgraf, vice president of marketing and promotions at Fox Sports, is expected to assume Tile's previous responsibilities, according to sources. A Fox Sports representative declined comment.

DirecTV spent $175 million on ads in 2002 and more than $140 million through November 2003, according to Nielsen Monitor-Plus. DirecTV's lead agency is Interpublic Group's Deutsch/LA in Marina del Rey, Calif.
