It’s only fitting that the City of Brotherly Love is the market that gave birth to the concept of pooling video resources among rival TV stations, a trend now sweeping the nation. A local news service in Philly, now more than a year old, is still going strong between founding broadcasters Fox Television and NBC Universal and their owned-and-operated stations, WTXF and WCAU. While the stations claim the arrangement frees them both up to report more news and concentrate on investigative reporting, it’s too soon to tell if the local co-op will help WTXF and WCAU upset the long-standing news leader in the market, WPVI, ABC Television’s O&O.

WPVI continues to hold the top spot by a wide ratings margin in all news dayparts, despite the signal problem it encountered during the transition to digital TV in June.
