Burger King Gets New Marketing Officer

Burger King Corp. announced today that Christopher E. Clouser will join the company as executive vice president and chief marketing officer, effective immediately.

Clouser, 49, was chief executive and executive board member of the Minnesota Twins Major League Baseball Club until Dec. 12, 2000. Clouser will be responsible for creating and implementing global marketing strategies, including research, new products, pricing and promotions.

As part of its newest campaign, Burger King said it will expand its bundled menu offerings with additional sizing and stronger promotions for its popular Value Meals, beginning with a national program called "Make It A Meal for 99 Cents." The program will be supported by national TV spots created by McCann Erickson, which handles Burger King's general market advertising.

Burger King chief executive John Dasburg has said that the fast-food chain has talked with a leveraged buyout firm. The Diageo PLC subsidiary also has been talking for months about a Burger King spinoff that would take place in the next few years. Dasburg said whatever happens will be in 2002.
