CHICAGO- Mary Bishop is leaving as president and chief marketing officer of Leo Burnett USA effective March 1, sources said.

Bishop approached executives at Burnett and parent company Bcom3 Group several months ago about her desire to retire, agency sources said, adding that management delayed an announcement in order to distance the move from the recent layoff of 200 staffers.

Burnett officials declined comment Friday, and Bishop did not return phone calls.

In 20 years at the shop, Bishop led the global Procter & Gamble account and efforts to expand ancillary units such ad the LeoHealth health-care operation.
