Y&R Chicago Gets a New Chief

John Fraser replaces Kary McIlwain as president

Young & Rubicam has reached into mcgarrybowen to find a new head for its Chicago office.

John Fraser, chief operating officer at mcgarrybowen in Chicago, is replacing Kary McIlwain as president of Y&R's local office. McIlwain, a 26-year veteran of Y&R who has led the office since 2001, is shifting to non-executive chairman for a transition period that will end toward the end of this year.

Fraser, meanwhile, will join his new agency on Wednesday.

The new chief arrives two months after Y&R changed creative leadership in the office. Creative directors Pam Mufson and Jeremy Smallwood became co-ecds, replacing chief creative officer Bill Cimino, who left the agency after more than two years.

Top accounts in Chicago, which has about 100 staffers, include Famous Footwear, Carfax, Hilton (Embassy Suites and DoubleTree) and BMO Harris Bank.
