White Among 8 Cuts at Equals Three

ATLANTA Equals Three Communications cut eight staffers this week as part of a reorganization, the agency said.

The Bethesda, Md., independent shop plans to expand its work beyond the government sector and use its experience with healthcare communications and multicultural marketing to land more accounts in the private sector, said Eugene Faison Jr., chairman and CEO of the agency.

Last month, the agency added six employees who have experience in the private sector. All but one of those hires remain after the cuts. Melissa Chotiner, who was hired last month as an account supervisor, is leaving the agency next week, Faison said.

Most of the staffers cut this week were in administrative positions, but several were in the shop’s creative department. Jennifer White, vice president of advertising at the agency for the past five years, was among the cuts.

People with experience in the private sector will replace White and most of the others let go, Faison said.

After the cuts, 35 people remain at the agency, Faison said. He would not disclose billings.
