StrawberryFrog Hires TBWA’s Monturo as Top Strategist

NEW YORK Richard Monturo, worldwide director of global strategy at TBWA Worldwide, has accepted an offer to become director of strategy at StrawberryFrog in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, the agency said.

He is expected to start in March.

At TBWA, Monturo was based in New York and worked on global clients such as Absolut and McDonald’s. At StrawberryFrog, he will lead strategic planning and be part of the independent agency’s management team.

“It’s fresh and different, that’s for sure,” said Monturo, 40. “It’s an opportunity to do both a lifestyle and a career change.”

Agency co-founder Scott Goodson described Monturo as “smart, very savvy and very good with clients,” adding, “Richard’s job will be to help build our agency into a powerhouse, and guide our client’s brands to deliver their brand initiatives across Europe, in the U.S. and globally.”

In addition to Amsterdam, StrawberryFrog also has an office in New York. Clients include Mitsubishi Motors, TD Waterhouse and Asics in Europe and Sony Ericsson, and Pfizer and Google in the U.S.

Monturo’s TBWA duties will be absorbed by other planners, including New York chief strategy officer Hugh Duthie, who was hired last week and starts Feb. 24, a TBWA representative said.
