Scales Becomes CEO, Suh Remains Chairman at Agency.com

NEW YORK Agency.com said today that it has promoted president and chief operating officer Don Scales to CEO, a post previously held by founder and chairman Chan Suh.

In the role, Scales, 48, will be responsible for the operational aspects of the New York-based interactive agency, which has about 350 people in six offices worldwide working on accounts like 3M, British Airways and Visa. He will retain the president’s title and continue to report to Suh, who will remain chairman.

Scales, who is based in Dallas, joined the Omnicom Group interactive agency in February 2001 as Southwest regional president, and was later elevated to Western regional president. In May 2002, he advanced to chief executive of North America before taking over as president and COO in July 2003 [IQ Daily Briefing, July 10, 2003].

“Since joining the company three years ago, Don has not only demonstrated the ability to manage and lead, but has proven that he has the vision to grow the company,” said Suh.

Last month, Agency.com beefed up its online advertising practice with the acquisition of Exile on Seventh, a 16-person San Francisco-based company that creates online advertising for eBay, 21st Century Insurance and Wells Fargo, among others [IQ Daily Briefing, June 29].
