Racepoint Expands Via London Acquisition

BOSTON Racepoint Group has established a beachhead in Europe via the acquisition of London-based Fuse PR.

Fuse focuses on the education, health and IT sectors, with clients such as EqualLogic, Fujitsu, Kana and UKOnline.

Jay O’Connor, managing partner and co-founder of Fuse, becomes Racepoint’s managing director of European operations, tasked with growing business in the U.K. and expanding into continental Europe. O’Connor helped launch Fuse in 1998 and previously worked at shops including The Weber Group, an agency led by Racepoint chairman Larry Weber.

Fuse’s other co-founder, Philip Sheldrake, has been named Racepoint’s director of digital strategies in Europe.

Marijean Lauzier, president and CEO of Waltham, Mass.-based Racepoint, said, “We have known Jay and Philip for some time and respect and admire what they have built at Fuse. We share a common set of values and a deep commitment to client service and employee development.”

O’Connor said the union “gives us access to new ideas, systems and people, which will invigorate our offering, and importantly, provide an international platform for our clients—many of whom require global outreach.”

Acquisition terms were not disclosed.

Three-year-old Racepoint last December expanded to the West Coast, opening an office in San Francisco. The agency has about 60 total employees.
