Quiznos Taps Boston Market’s Hall as CMO

NEW YORK Quiznos has hired Trey Hall from Boston Market as its chief marketing officer, effective Tuesday, the company said.

Hall will report to executive vice president Brooksy Smith, who has been overseeing a review for Quiznos’ estimated $25 million ad account since June. Hall succeeds Rob Elliot, who left the company in December 2001. Smith has been handling CMO responsibilities since then.

“He’s done a phenomenal job running marketing for Boston Market and Pizza Hut before that,” Smith said of Hall, who had been CMO at Boston Market, a unit of McDonald’s.

Smith said Hall and Tom Ryan, executive vice president of branding, who joined Quiznos from McDonald’s in August, will both be involved in the agency selection process.

Next week, client executives will visit agencies to hear final creative presentations. Contending are Interpublic Group’s The Martin Agency in Richmond, Va.; and independents Wieden + Kennedy in Portland, Ore.; WongDoody in Los Angeles; and New York shops The Romann Group and incumbent Cliff Freeman and Partners.

Below-the-line shops such as IPG’s Zipatoni of St. Louis, which is defending its in-store marketing piece of the account against the creative shops, will present to Quiznos in Denver in two weeks, while WPP Group’s OgilvyPR will defend its PR business against the creative agency finalists.

At the end of the month, media incumbent Initiative Media, a unit of the Interpublic Group, will defend against Camelot Communication in Dallas and Media Head in New York.

Quiznos will make its selections by early October.
