Syra Villarreal joined Heil-Brice Retail Advertising’s Hispanic division, Publicidad en Espanol, to assist in creative direction and account services. Villarreal was previously a creative director at Mendoza, Dillon & Asociados. In her new position, she will report to Rosalie Delgadillo, Publicidad en Espanol’s executive director of ethnic marketing. HBRA is based in Newport Beach.
SGI Marketing in Los Angeles appointed Brien Scott head of casting. Scott, 37, will oversee all aspects of feature-film casting, production coordination and marketing. Previously, he was a creative director at Kent & Spiegel Direct in Culver City, working on accounts such as Columbia Pictures, Avanti and Paramount Pictures.
Kathye Cipes joined Cronin & Co. in Glastonbury as managing supervisor of the independent agency’s direct-marketing operations. Her main duty is overseeing the shop’s efforts for healthcare-software client TriZetto. Previously, she served as marketing manager at Cerner Consulting in Kansas City, Mo. In addition, Cronin hired Kathy Martin as account supervisor, overseeing integrated marketing for Liberty Bank and Centerplate. She joins Cronin from Mullen in Wenham, Mass. Also, Betsey Castle was appointed a senior account executive at Cronin. Castle most recently held a similar post at Keiler & Co. in Farmington.

New Media Strategies added three employees. Vanessa Polak, named an online brand manager, comes to the Washington shop from US Airways in Arlington, Va., where she served as manager of e-commerce communications. Stacie Duffy also has joined the agency as an online brand manager; previously, she managed the live-events division of America Online in Dulles, Va. Casey Long was appointed manager of business development; he formerly was at The Corporate Executive Board in Washington, where he served in the same position.
BBDO Atlanta installed Al Jackson as senior vice president and group creative director. He will work on the shop’s Georgia Natural Gas, Peace Corps and Cingular Wireless accounts. Jackson’s résumé includes stops at Austin Kelley Advertising and Sawyer Riley Compton, both in Atlanta. He also was a senior copywriter at Arnold in Boston and a copywriter at Ogilvy & Mather in Bangkok, Thailand, and Singapore. Jackson has produced award-winning work for clients such as Pepsi, KFC, Guinness, IBM and Nokia.
Peter A. Mayer Advertising in New Orleans hired Larry Lovell as senior public relations account executive. Previously, Lovell was director of marketing and public relations at the Louisiana State Museum.
Kansas City Direct Marketing Association elected Jill Intravartolo to a one-year term as president. Intravartolo is president and chief executive officer of Felco Printing and Mailing in Kansas City.
Brickmill Marketing Services hired Lisa Harrington as director of product management. She will oversee the marketing and development of new technology-based products for the Nashua company. Harrington previously held positions with Polaroid, NEC and WatchGuard Technologies.
Kavery “Sunny” Subbayya rose to senior art director at the R&J Group, a marketing-communications firm in Parsippany. Subbayya joined the agency three years ago and has worked on accounts such as Sony, Sharp, Nielsen Bainbridge and the New Jersey Organ & Tissue Sharing Network. Both the Advertising Club of New Jersey and the Art Directors Club of New Jersey have recognized her work for creative excellence.
Gunnar Wilmot, senior vice president, planning and business development at Interpublic Group, is leaving that post to help coordinate a new global alliance between sister shops Lowe and Draft, the agencies said. Wilmot will take the title of chief operating officer for the endeavor, dubbed Lowe Plus Draft. The CEO and president is Lowe worldwide CEO Jerry Judge, and the chairman, Draft CEO Howard Draft. As a result of the alliance [Adweek, March 31], the shops are expected to share back-office operations and pitch business together.
Andy Morris & Co., a New York-based public relations and marketing-communications firm, added Jocelyn Weiss as a senior account executive. Weiss, who has worked at ABC and CNN, arrives at AM&C from Harbor Properties & Harbor Resorts, where she was marketing coordinator. Primary accounts that Weiss will manage include Pfizer, Key Energy and Working Today.
Erwin-Penland promoted two staffers. Former creative supervisors Joe Gilman and Mike Weston advanced to associate creative directors. Gilman will oversee creative for the Greenville shop’s Advance America, Cafe Enterprises, Health Information Association, ImageNation, Regent Medical and ScanSource accounts. Weston will handle the agency’s Michelin, Uniroyal and Wachovia accounts.
Waggener Edstrom Strategic Communications installed Matt McGinnis as an account supervisor on its AMD and Vignette Corp. accounts. Prior to joining the Austin shop, McGinnis was a director at Armstrong Kendall in Portland, Ore. WESC also hired Amy Drozd and Trish Boyd as account executive and office manager, respectively. Drozd joins the shop from Advanced Micro Devices, while Boyd was an executive assistant at SBC-Prodigy Communications.
Edelmann Scott in Richmond named Christie Good an account executive. She previously worked in the same position at Fiorucci Foods, also in Richmond.
Cole & Weber/Red Cell named Valerie Paquin an assistant account executive and Alison Montgomery a project manager at its Seattle office. Previously an account coordinator at Think Seattle, Paquin, 24, will work on accounts such as Tree Top, Woodland Park Zoo, University Bookstore and the University of Phoenix. Montgomery, 37, rejoins Cole & Weber after a previous engagement with the shop as a production billing manager. She will manage integrated projects for the Gold Toe and Umpqua Bank accounts. In addition, the Portland, Ore., office hired Steve Hawley as an account executive, primarily for the Nike retail account, and Drew Tyndell as an art director. Previously, Hawley, 28, worked at Nerve and Tyndell, 24, studied at the Ringling School of Art & Design in Florida.
