ATLANTA Software designer and producer iLumin has hired Philip Johnson Associates to handle its advertising after a review of several undisclosed shops, the agency said.

There was no incumbent. The Reston, Va., company had assigned its work to various agencies as projects before the review. Billings were not disclosed, but the account includes both creative and media buying duties.

PJA said it would design and produce print ads that will run primarily in the technology trade press. The campaign will include extending the print ads to tech trade Web sites. Initial work is scheduled to launch during the first quarter of next year, said Mike O’Toole, a partner in the Cambridge, Mass.-based agency.

The client’s products optimize the performance of corporate email systems.

The account adds to the independent Boston shop’s roster of technology clients. The shop also provides advertising for companies such as Boston Scientific, Progress Software, think3, SSA Global and MRO Software.
