Talking golf balls. That’s the premise of The Martin Agency’s television commercials for Ping Golf clubs.
A mustachioed gent in “Old Guy” whines to his well-rounded grandson that he has “more scars than a prize fighter . . . You young guys got it easy.” The boy is bored.
The Old Guy says he coulda been a contender “in a trophy case somewhere.” Grandson, bored, wants to check out the tube. Ping clubs are seen sending balls streaking. That wasn’t the case in Grandpa’s day. “We had a hunk of metal on a stick. That’s what we had!” he says.
In “Serenade,” an animated orb mouths “Let Me Call You Sweetheart” to a handful of duffers.
The spots were produced for the Richmond, Va., agency by Fuel Productions in Santa Monica, Calif.
The national broadcast and cable campaign began with the AT&T-Pebble Beach tournament in February. Ads will continue to air on big-name PGA tourney telecasts throughout the season.
