Perking Up Job Benefits

Thought you did well negotiating that power cubicle and an extra week of vacation during your last job review? How does a five-week paid sabbatical sound?
SicolaMartin of Austin, Texas, has begun offering the unusual perk to its longer term employees, who are discovering unique ways to spend the time away.
Dubbed “FreshAir,” the program is open to staffers who complete five years of service at the high-tech shop.
The ground rules are: take five consecutive weeks within 12 months of your five-year anniversary, do whatever you want as long as it does not present a conflict with the agency’s interests, and submit a brief description of how you benefitted.
Presentations department manager Lori Randel traveled to Nebraska and Kansas to see relatives, visited Colorado for five days and enjoyed several day trips during her recent five-week vacation.
Account director Susan Johnson is planning a Peruvian trip and will hike the Inca trail to Machu Picchu.
“I can’t think of a better place than an ancient Incan city atop an 11,000-foot mountain range to . . . rejuvenate my creative spirit,” Johnson said. –Steve Krajewski
