MLB’s Twins to Meet With 8 Shops

CHICAGO Executives with the Minnesota Twins baseball team have scheduled meetings with seven local agencies—as well as Major League Baseball’s production outfit—to handle the club’s estimated $1 million advertising account, the team confirmed.

“When attendance doesn’t match expectations, you start looking at all aspects of your business,” said Patrick Klinger, vp of marketing at the American League team.

Vying for the account are Minneapolis agencies BBDO, One and All, Periscope, Spyglass Creative and Tanaka Advertising; Castaneda Williams in Edina, Minn.; Medvec-Eppers in St. Paul, Minn.; and New York-based Major League Baseball Productions.

For the past four years, Hunt Adkins has handled the business. When team officials opted to conduct a search, however, the Minneapolis agency resigned the account, Klinger said.

Klinger said he hopes to make a decision in mid-September after initial meetings with the eight agencies. But if club executives are not satisfied with the contenders’ offerings, Klinger said he is open to widening the search.
