Tongues wagged when McCann-Erickson’s Tom Lawson showed up in Boston recently for a series of meetings with Arnold Fortuna Lawner & Cabot. Lawson is the managing director of M-E’s Universal Group in New York which handles numerous McDonald’s co-ops around the country.
Could it be the two agenciess – M-E and AFL&C – would be getting together under a McDonald’s banner in a more formalized way? Was the Mergermeister, AFL&C chairman/ceo Ed Eskandarian, preparing to do another deal?
Lawson told ADWEEK he was in Boston to discuss ‘sectional advertising for McDonald’s in the Northeast.’ Nothing more.
As for Eskandarian, he’s been out of his office for the last week or so working on, among other things, some key hires to anchor his agency holdings in the South.
Back-burner that Mc-merger for now.
