Matthaeus Halverson Joins With Hammerquist & Saffel

Merger mania continues to sweep Seattle.
The latest agencies to join forces are Hammerquist & Saffel and Matthaeus Halverson Advertising, two midsized shops founded in 1991. The new agency is called Hammerquist Saffel & Halverson, and is located in H&S’ existing offices in Seattle’s historic Daily Journal of Commerce building.
Executives at both agencies said the merger helps leverage their individual strengths.
“Linda [Halverson] and her group will provide the sound strategic leadership we need,” said agency principal Fred Hammerquist, co-founder of Hammerquist & Saffel.
Matthaeus Halverson principals Paul Matthaeus and Linda Halverson had been looking for a creative head since creative director David Ayriss left late last year to form a creative task force.
“We were looking for creative depth that was well established, as opposed to just hiring a creative director,” Halverson said.
Matthaeus has opted not to join the new venture. Instead, he will devote his time to his broadcast production company, Digital Kitchen, of which HS&H will continue to be a client.
The move is the latest in a flurry of agency consolidation in Seattle, including the recent merger of CF2GS and Borders, Perrin & Norrander into Bozell/Seattle and Think New Ideas’ acquisition of Herring/Newman.
