Interpublic Creates Chief Risk Officer Post

NEW YORK–Interpublic Group has elevated svp, financial administration Thomas Dowling to chief risk officer, a new position.

Dowling, 51, will now lead the integration of the company’s risk management functions, including internal audit, real estate insurance and shared services. Previously, Dowling reported to IPG CFO Sean Orr. In his new role, he reports to both Orr and–on matters related to financial controls–the company’s Board of Directors.

IPG, which has been beset this year by a ballooning accounting imbalance and earnings shortfalls, said the move was designed to strengthen corporate governance.
