Arnold Unveils Antismoking TV Spots

BOSTON—New TV spots warning consumers about the harm of second-hand smoke are the latest offering in Arnold’s antismoking campaign for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Five spots, airing statewide, feature interviews with chemists and morticians in their places of work. The professionals describe the precautions they take to minimize their exposure to chemicals such as formaldehyde, lead, arsenic and benzene—all of which are found in second-hand tobacco smoke. Ads feature the tag, “Second-hand smoke kills. Make smoking history.” Arnold also works on the national American Legacy anti-smoking initiative and its office in McLean, Va., is pitching Virginia’s $30 million tobacco-control account.

Link Agency Appoints Sourial

BOSTON—The Link Agency has named Joanne Sourial director of communications. Sourial joins the Providence, R.I., agency from the New York office of Edelman PR. While at Edelman, Sourial focused on the corporate reputation of clients such as UPS, The American Management Association, Credit Suisse First Boston and IMAX. The Link Agency was founded in March 2000 by Tracy LeRoux. It is a full-service marketing communications firm which offers consumer advertising, strategic consulting, custom publishing, media planning and public relations. Link’s clients include A.J. Wright, the Fidelity Charitable Gift Fund and Save the Bay—the Friends of Narragansett Bay and Buttonhole Golf Course.

Ad Club Names Stark ‘Person of the Year’

BOSTON—Joel Stark, senior vice president of marketing and development for The Providence Journal-Bulletin, was named “Person of the Year” by the Advertising Club of Southeastern New England. Stark was chosen by a committee of his peers for the contributions he has made to the communications industry and to the community at large. He will be presented with the honor at the organization’s annual meeting on May 17 at the Westin Hotel in Providence, R.I.

Virginia Kramer has been named executive creative director and James Payne has been named creative director for interactive design, one of Keiler’s fastest growing areas … Clarke & Co., Boston, has named Kelley Kass vice president, and Amanda Smith senior account executive in the agency’s business-to-business unit … Leslie Repetto has joined Modernista!, Boston, as an account supervisor. She had been with Pagano Schenck & Kay, which earlier this year moved operations from Boston to New York.

Fuse Ignites Marketing Intelligence Group

BOSTON—Fuse Integrated Marketing has launched a new division, Marketing Intelligence Group, led by Barbara Perkins. The unit will conduct research and market analysis. Newburyport, Mass.-based Fuse works for AT&T Broadband, Georgia-Pacific, United Plastics Group and others.
