A Starcom Expected to Land Delta Media Buying
CHICAGO–Delta Air Lines is expected to award its $100 million media buying account to Starcom Worldwide here, sources said. Though there was no
formal review for the business, the Atlanta-based air carrier was thought to have talked with other media buying companies, including incumbent Zenith Media in New York and Western Initiative Media in Atlanta. Starcom officials declined comment, and Delta officials did not return calls. Starcom and Leo Burnett USA won creative and media planning duties on the account in September.

NEW YORK–Using the national rollout of its “Made for You” cooking platform as the opportunity to re-evaluate its core brand attributes, McDonald’s has enlisted John Cywinski to head a global brand strategy task force that has been studying the golden arches. The findings of the task force are expected to lead to a new brand platform by midyear.

CHICAGO–Marcus Advertising has been unseated after 25 years on the Ohio Lottery account. Stern Advertising in suburban Cleveland has been awarded a $25 million,
18-month contract with a two-year renewal option. Stern’s first work is scheduled to appear in January 2000. Falhgren, Cincinnati, was the other finalist.
A True North Posts Third-Quarter Results
CHICAGO–Excluding one-time costs, primarily $76.4 million associated with the realignment of Bozell and FCB Worldwide, True North Communications reported a revenue increase for the third quarter of 18 percent, to $357 million. That gain comes to 38 cents per share. With those restructuring costs included, TN lost
$32 million, or 66 cents per share during the quarter, compared to net income of $13.2 million or 28 cents a share for the same period a year ago. Net income for the quarter excluding restructuring was $18 million. The company claimed $233 million in new business billings during the quarter.
