Arnold and Hill, Holliday Make Promus List
DALLAS – Four shops have emerged as contenders in a possible $40 million consolidation review for Promus Hotel Corp., Memphis, Tenn. Capabilities visits have been scheduled with Arnold Communications and Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos, both in Boston, Foote Cone & Belding in Chicago, and TBWA Chiat/Day in New York, sources said. Agency executives declined comment. Defending their portions of the account are Promus’ lead agencies GSD&M, Austin, Texas, which handles the 171-unit Doubletree hotel chain, and DDB Needham, Dallas, which services Hampton Inns, Hampton Inn & Suites, Embassy Suites and Homewood Suites. Greg Malark, vice president of marketing at Promus, would not confirm the contenders but said he is meeting with about seven shops, in addition to the incumbents. He said the account could be consolidated or remain split.
Arnold, Radio in the Nude Win Clios
NEW YORK – Arnold Communications and Radio in the Nude, both Boston, were the sole New England winners at the 39th International Clio Advertising Awards Festival last week in New York. Cliff Freeman and Partners, New York, walked off with the Grand Clio in television, and Leo Burnett, London, won the Grand Clio for print. In addition, Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, San Francisco, was named “Agency of the Year” for the second consecutive year by amassing the most points from the greatest number of awards. Arnold won a bronze Clio in the automotive category for a Volkswagen of America TV spot, while Radio in the Nude landed a bronze award for a radio spot created for a product called Imponderables.
United Lithography Acquired by Mail-Well
BOSTON – United Lithography, a 150-person commercial printing company in Somerville, Mass., was one of five print houses purchased last week by Mail-Well in Englewood, Colo. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Under the agreement, United Lithography, along with Color Art and Acu Color, both in St. Louis, Clarke Printing in San Antonio, Texas, and French Bray in Baltimore will function as Mail-Well’s commercial printing division while retaining their identities and local management, said Mail-Well executive vice president John Chadis. Founded in 1957, United Lithography works mainly on high-end color print jobs for ad agencies, design houses and major corporations throughout New England.
Ingalls Promotes 2 in Media
BOSTON – Two members of the media department of Ingalls Advertising have been promoted to senior-level positions. The Boston shop has advanced Mindy Welsh to group media director from media planner and Kelly O’Neill to group media director from managing supervisor.
