Gateway Uses Leo Burnett for Project
LOS ANGELES–Leo Burnett, Chicago, recently completed an undisclosed project for Gateway 2000, according to Fritz Fraiser, director of marketing communications for the computer maker’s major accounts division. Sources close to North Sioux City, S.D.-based Gateway said it is currently looking outside lead agency D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles, Los Angeles, to assign a business-to-business project. DMB&B breaks a new consumer and trade print campaign this week for the business-to-business division.
O&M, BBDO Finalists for Kimberly-Clark
CHICAGO–Kimberly-Clark has narrowed the review for its estimated $30 million global feminine care business to Ogilvy & Mather, Chicago, and BBDO, New York, according to sources. O&M’s New York office is the incumbent on the business, which includes the New Freedom and Kotex brands. Eliminated were Foote, Cone & Belding, Chicago, which handles K-C’s Kleenex business; Young & Rubicam, New York; and Temerlin McClain, Dallas. Officials at Dallas-based K-C could not be reached for comment; executives at the agencies involved could not be reached or declined comment.
Y&R to Split Lincoln-Mercury Account Functions
DETROIT–Young & Rubicam, which announced plans in January to move its handling of Ford Motor Co.’s Lincoln-Mercury division account from here to the West Coast, said it will split servicing of the $275 million business. Y&R’s account management, media and strategic planning teams, plus the relationship marketing handled by its WCJ unit, will be housed in Irvine, Calif., while creative teams for national and dealer advertising, direct and interactive will be based in its San Francisco office. John Hirschboeck, president of Y&R Detroit, and executive creative director Michael Belitsos will move west to oversee the Lincoln-Mercury account.
Agencies Await Impact of Daewoo Consolidation
CHICAGO–Having centralized operations in Los Angeles, Korean car maker Daewoo Motor America has to decide what to do with the four regional ad agencies it enlisted following reviews last year, a Daewoo executive said. The consolidation was spurred by “the need for some internal consistencies,” said Bill Tucker, vice president of marketing and customer relations for Daewoo’s central region. Daewoo last year approved a national strategy created by The Leap Partnership here, one of the four regional agencies. The others are Ground Zero, Santa Monica, Calif.; Fletcher Martin, Atlanta; and Korey, Kay & Partners, New York.
Citgo Launches Agency Search
DALLAS–Citgo Petroleum, Tulsa, Okla., said it has issued a request for proposals to undisclosed agencies, primarily in the Southwest and Midwest, for its estimated $10 million-plus account. Citgo advertising manager Donald Rucks is heading the search.
