VHA Co-op Appoints Campbell Mithun Esty
CHICAGO–VHA Inc., a cooperative that represents more than 1,600 community hospitals and healthcare organizations, awarded its $15 million branding account to Campbell Mithun Esty, Minneapolis. VHA officials in Irving, Texas, are still determining the agency’s specific duties, said company representative Mack Haning. Incumbent agency Hadeler Sullivan Ewing (now Hadeler Sullivan & Law) resigned the account last year, citing lack of activity. The client is expected to spend $15 million on advertising in the coming year and could exceed $30 million in upcoming years, sources said.
Kaiser Permanente Selects Grey Advertising
NEW YORK–Grey Advertising here has been awarded the estimated $30 million corporate image assignment of Kaiser Permanente, Oakland, Calif. Grey beat out Temerlin McClain in Irving, Texas, and Saatchi & Saatchi in New York. Temerlin, which won the $22 million advertising account of Nationwide Insurance last week [see separate story on this page], remains in contention for the $30 million global account of Kimberly-Clark feminine care products.
Tops Show Rearranges Panel of Judges
DALLAS–After losing a pair of commitments for its six-member jury for the Feb. 7 Tops Show, the Dallas Ad League has recruited Derrick Pletch of Carmichael Lynch in Minneapolis as the fifth judge. He will evaluate entries alongside Rob Schapiro of The Martin Agency, Richmond, Va.; Scott Armstrong of Wieden & Kennedy, Portland, Ore.; Josh Miller of Cliff Freeman and Partners, New York; and Hector Fernandez of BBDO in Mexico City.
Addy Entries Boom in San Antonio, Fort Worth
DALLAS–Organizers of the annual American Advertising Federation awards competitions in both San Antonio and Fort Worth, Texas, are reporting record numbers of entries for their upcoming shows. More than 700 submissions have been entered for the 32nd annual Addy Awards sponsored by the San Antonio chapter of the AAF. The Advertising Club of Fort Worth has received 859 entries for its Addys show, up from the previous high of 724 at the 1995 competition. The Fort Worth show is set for Feb. 7 while the San Antonio event is scheduled for Feb. 21. Judges for the Fort Worth show are James Dalthorp of Hal Riney & Partners, San Francisco; Glenn Gill of Trone Advertising, Greensboro, N.C.; and Sandra Inbody-Brick of 360 Systems in Westlake, Calif.
M/C/C Attracts Denver, California Clients
DALLAS–High-tech marketing agency M/C/C here landed a trio of new out-of-state clients. Evolving Systems of Denver and Olicom and SnapTrack, both of San Jose, Calif., have assigned a variety of advertising, promotion, public relations and research duties to M/C/C. Billings were undisclosed.
