DDB Adds $55 Mil. From Clorox
SAN FRANCISCO–The Clorox Co. consolidated its global account with DDB Worldwide Friday, shifting $55 million in billings from Young & Rubicam. The agency now handles Oakland, Calif.-based Clorox’s entire $205 million account. Its new assignments include brands such as Brita, Hidden Valley and Kingsford. The consolidated business will be handled out of San Francisco. Clorox assignments already at DDB include work for its home care, laundry additives, trash bags, auto care and food storage categories. DDB will also be responsible for media planning and buying and Hispanic ad duties. Previously, media planning was handled by The Media Edge, a unit of Y&R. Hispanic ad duties were with The Bravo Group, also of Y&R, and DDB affiliate Dieste & Partners, Dallas. Interactive work, previously split between Brand Dialogue and DDB Digital, has been consolidated at the latter. Clorox Diamond Communications, a joint venture of Y&R and DDB, will continue to handle media buying, but under new DDB management.
eToys.com Shifts $10-15 Mil. Account to Riney
SAN FRANCISCO–Publicis & Hal Riney has been awarded ad duties from Internet-based toy, children’s book and baby product retailer eToys.com, according to sources. Riney, San Francisco, won the account following a review of undisclosed shops. Billings are estimated to be at least $10-15 million for the rest of this year, but sources said that figure could grow significantly in 2000. Riney will launch a multimedia branding campaign for the client in September. The account was previously at Kalis & Savage, Pacific Palisades, Calif.
ABC Ordered to Removed Banners
LOS ANGELES–City inspectors here have ordered ABC to remove from city lightposts banners touting its fall lineup. The use of such banners by commercial entities is barred by local ordinance. ABC agency TBWA/Chiat/Day, Playa del Rey, Calif., working with AAA Flag and Banner Mfg. Co., arranged the promotion, which city officials said was mistakenly approved.

Saatchi & Saatchi has landed the estimated $30 million Barclays Global Investors account after a review. The San Francisco office bested McCann-Erickson’s San Francisco and New York offices. There was no incumbent. … Select Resources International’s New Media division in Los Angeles has named the contenders for Mintaka Technology Group’s estimated $1 million interactive account [Adweek, June 28]. They are: Four Points Digital and Interactive Bureau, both San Francisco; Cybersight, Los Angeles and Portland, Ore.; Nine Dots, Irvine, Calif.; and Think New Ideas, Torrance, Calif., according to Paran Johar, Select New Media managing partner. The software developer is expected to make a decision by September. … Publicis & Hal Riney, San Francisco, has been handed a “network branding assignment” for Turner Broadcasting System’s TBS Superstation, Atlanta, without a review. Billings were not disclosed.
