International Gains Lead Burnett Growth
CHICAGO–Leo Burnett announced projected year-end billings of $6.61 billion, a 10.6 percent increase over 1997. International billings rose 17 percent to $3.9 billion; U.S. billings rose 2 percent to $2.7 billion.

Jim Beam Review Goes Global
CHICAGO–Jim Beam Brands is reviewing the $15 million global account for its flagship Jim Beam bourbon following Fallon McElligott’s resignation last month of the $8 million U.S. portion of the account. Officials with Deerfield, Ill.-based Beam have invited four agencies to pitch: Wieden & Kennedy, Portland, Ore.; Hill, Holiday/Altschiller, New York; Young & Rubicam, Chicago; and J. Walter Thompson, whose Sydney, Australia, office handles the brand overseas. The client said more contenders may be added from among the many shops that signaled an interest.
DDB Discovers It Has to Defend
CHICAGO–DDB Needham here will defend its $70 million Discover card business against a handful of contenders that have been selected by the Riverwoods, Ill., division of Morgan Stanley, Dean Witter & Co. Sources said Leo Burnett here, agency for the Dean Witter financial services unit, is among the shops invited. New management at Discover prompted the review, which a company representative said includes creative and media duties.

Project Millennium, a yearlong series of Chicago events leading up to 2000 that is supported by a public and private consortium of foundations, museums, and cultural groups, awarded its advertising duties to McConnaughy Stein Schmidt Brown, Chicago. Spending is estimated at $1 million. … The Janus Funds in Denver tapped Media That Works in Cincinnati to handle its
$16 million media buying account, previously at Foote, Cone & Belding, San Francisco. FCB retains creative duties. … Ovation Communications in Minneapolis tapped hometown agency Peterson Milla Hooks to handle brand-building work for the telecommunications provider, which is expanding into Chicago, Milwaukee and Detroit. Billings were estimated at $1-2 million.
