Girdling the globe

A corset fit nicely into Bozell Omaha’s plan for a poster to promote the Durham Western Heritage Museum in their hometown. An image of the turn-of-the-century garment appears the headline “Frankly, we need support in other areas.”
Neither the agency nor the museum were looking for worldwide exposure. But the corset poster appeared in the 1999 Graphis International Annual of Poster Art, where it caught the eye of collectors at the Museum for Decorative Arts in Hamburg, Germany. A version of the poster now hangs in the museum.
“I think it’s a hoot,” said David Moore, a senior partner and creative director at Bozell Omaha. “It kind of caught me by surprise.”
The museum exhibits posters, book covers and other examples from the graphic arts, with luminaries from Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec to David Carson on display.
Ron Sack was art director of the poster, Robin Fitzgerald wrote the copy.
