The FBI is bringing the “Most Wanted” poster into the digital age. In partnership with Clear Channel Outdoor, the FBI unveiled Friday (Jan. 15) a digital billboard in Times Square at 47th and Broadway in New York City.
Clear Channel provided the board as a public service to the FBI, which last year launched its most wanted digital billboard initiative in 20 cities based on the successful use of digital billboards in Philadelphia in Oct. 2007.
“When the FBI asked us to expand our billboard program to Times Square, we agreed immediately,” said Harry Coghlan, president and general manager of Spectacolor.
The FBI credits the billboards for directly leading to the capture of at least 14 criminals.
“With a Clear Channel billboard right in the middle of Times Square, we now have the ability to reach thousands of people a day with our message. The process is simple, if you see something on our billboard and have a tip, pickup the phone and call. This program has proven successful throughout the country and the FBI Office in New York is happy to be on board,” said Belle Chen, assistant special agent in charge.
In addition to Clear Channel, the FBI has also partnered with Adams Outdoor, Lamar Advertising and the Outdoor Advertising Association of Georgia, giving the FBI access to more than 1,500 billboards nationwide.
