Ralph Rydholm had a good story to tell Wednesday at the annual Off the Street Club holiday party in Chicago. In 1998, Rydholm stepped down as CEO of what was then Euro RSCG Tatham. After Tatham imploded earlier this year, Rydholm, the merry prankster, said he couldn’t help but rib Euro’s Ron Berger when they met up a couple months ago. “I said, ‘Ron, I could have lost all that business for you. I didn’t know that’s what you wanted me to do!’ ” He said Berger just glowered. Plenty of ad big shots attended the party, which supports a recreational center for children on the city’s West Side. But no doubt the highlight for the kids was a surprise appearance by Kobe Bryant. … A correspondent from The Daily Show takes aim at advertising tonight, interviewing Anomaly’s Ernest Lupinacci, who offered a tongue-in-cheek preview: “You know, the usual: I’m the straight guy. They make me look like a nut.” … The One Club kicked off the holiday season with a party/board meeting last Monday night. Board members Gerry Graf of TBWA\Chiat\Day, Kevin Roddy of Bartle Bogle Hegarty, Joe Duffy of Duffy & Partners and Lance Jensen of Modernista!, as well as board president David Baldwin of McKinney + Silver, mingled with One Club members over drinks and hors d’oeuvres. The One Club’s Mary Warlick said she was glad to get an early start on the holiday season. “Now it’s all over,” she said with evident relief. … David Swaebe and others from Mullen partied at Avalon in Boston Thursday night at Sports Illustrated’s Sportsmen of the Year bash (sponsored by Mullen client Olympus) honoring the Red Sox. Emcee Denis Leary chanted, “Fuck the Yankees! Fuck New York! And George Steinbrenner can kiss my white Irish ass!” Curt Schilling and fellow sports legends John Havlicek and Mike Eruzione drank Sam Adams and munched on lobster rolls.
