Austin Shop Stops to Sell the Roses

DALLAS GSD&M, an ad agency founded by five University of Texas alums, is stoking Rose Bowl anticipation by lighting its Austin, Texas, headquarters in UT orange and applying its creative skills to T-shirts and banners.

The Texas Longhorns, ranked second in the Bowl Championship Series standings, play the top-ranked University of Southern California Trojans for the national championship of college football at the Rose Bowl Jan. 4 in Pasadena, Calif.

Using “Live the dream 2006” as a tagline, GSD&M created banners for the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport bearing a logo showing the longhorn mascot with a rose in its mouth. The design was also applied to T-shirts on sale at the airport and other locations, the agency said.

GSD&M co-founder Roy Spence derived the tagline after a statement from Texas Coach Mack Brown, who said defeating Colorado in the Big 12 championship allowed the team and fans to “live the dream” of winning the Rose Bowl.

Founded in the 1970s, GSD&M maintains close ties to the university through marketing campaigns and employing UT alumni and student interns.
