AMERICAN ROYALTY IN LONDON TOWN

London’s got the Memphis blues in the form of a taxi darting about Piccadilly Circus and Marble Arch with portraits of the King (Elvis) on one side and guitarist B.B. King on the other.
The multicolor cab, designed by Archer/Malmo art director Greg Hastings for the Memphis (Tenn.) Convention and Visitors Bureau, joins a half-dozen or so rolling billboards currently showcasing American cities in London.
“The appeal the [cab] has is amazing,” said Kevin Kane, president and chief executive officer of the convention bureau. “After the first day, the taxi driver was in a state of shock.”
Kane and Memphis-based Archer/Malmo are considering taking the mobile ad campaign elsewhere on the Continent. “We’re going to dot every European city with them,” said Kane.
The state of Tennessee also has its own cab tooling around London. This one showcases Dolly
Parton–obviously part of a bumper crop.
