Plato, the fuzzy blue alien and college cad who is inseparable from his Sony Walkman, returned last month in three new spots from Young & Rubicam, New York. Directed by Phil Morrison, the spots show Plato getting a physical in a doctor’s office, stepping on a scale inside a locker room and pinning a wrestling opponent. In “Doc tor,” the physician struggles to find a heartbeat until she places her stethoscope on Plato’s oversized head. And in “Match,” he manages to overpower his opponent with just a quick twist of the arm. All the while, he’s listening to music on a Walkman device. The spots, which were cre ated by art directors David Skinner and Hunter Williams and copywriters Matt Aselton and Darren Wright, employ the tagline common to all Sony Electronics ads: “Dream on.”
CarroSell, which provides airport-advertising services, placed ads for the MTA MetroCard on baggage-claim carousels at both La Guardia and John F. Kennedy International Airports. The ads will run through the end of December. New York-based CarroSell’s patented advertising medium appears on baggage carousels at various airports nationwide.
East Meadow-based Kizmet Interactive, a new-media company, revamped Hans grohe’s Web site, www.hansgrohe-usa.com. The German client, which has its U.S. headquarters in Alfreda, Ga., manufactures high-end bathroom and kitchen fixtures. The site includes a product database and dealer list. Hansgrohe reps can use the site to learn about products or post messages on a bulletin board. Kizmet Interactive also developed software applications for the client’s internal use.
HSR Studios created the sound design and musical underscore for a 30-second spot for AT&T and UniWorld Group, both New York. The New York-based audio facility also mixed “Your Cause,” which features a voiceover by actress Vanessa Williams. The commercial rolled out nation ally on Sept. 9. HSR Studios works with feature-film, advertising, TV, radio, Internet, corporate and industrial clients.
Braintree, Mass.-based Symmons Industries, a manufacturer of commercial and residential plumbing products, hired CCMR Advertising/Marketing Communications to cre ate and implement a marketing-commun ications program. The Kingston-based agency will provide strategic planning, paid media advertising, direct marketing and public relations services, as well as develop collateral materials. CCMR specializes in working with business-to-business clients.
Display Technologies, a manufacturer and designer of point-of-purchase displays, created the TechStoc Mini Visibility Slide to display Hansen’s Energy Drinks. The College Point-based company also customized its TechStoc Serpentine III to create the 180 Energy Drink Counter Display for Anheuser-Busch’s new energy beverage.
Public relations agency Fleishman-Hillard formed a new Arts, Culture and Entertainment capability. ACE will help clients identify and create brand-enhancing programming opportunities; connect cli ents with agents, managers, network and studios; handle talent negotiations; create and imple ment communications programs; and identify, negotiate and support sponsorships. The new unit will be led by senior vice president Peter Stamelman, who has 20 years of experience as an agent and TV network executive. He most recently was vice president, international business development at TBWA Entertainment Co. in New York. Stamelman will be based in the agency’s New York office and will be a senior adviser to account teams in Fleishman-Hillard’s global network. The St. Louis-based agency is part of Omnicom Group.
Licensing and marketing-consulting firm Building Q opened a New York City office earlier this month. The Voorhees-based company’s new office is headed by Terry Hess, most recently director of licensing at Gore-Sommerfield & Ditnes International. Building Q matches clients with licensed properties, such as movies, candy and toys.
Jaguar North America tapped S3 in Boonton to help create a new Web site for its dealer network. The site is being developed in conjunction with the launch of a new, dealer-focused magazine that was also created by S3. The marketing- communications agency is teaming up with London-based Global Beach Group, the client’s interactive partner, to work on the Web site. S3 is responsible for the site’s development, creative design and content management. Jaguar North Amer ica is based in Irvine, Calif.
Clifton Savings Bank hired Turchette Advertising to handle its strategic planning, print advertising, production of collateral materials and public relations. The Clif ton-based, eight-branch bank serves the Clifton and Garfield areas. Turchette is currently creating a new look and ad campaign for the bank.
Kansas City-based nonprofit organization Children International awarded its TV and print media buying business to The Direct Network, a direct response advertising agency based in Hoboken. The shop will also handle creative on a project basis. The client sponsors programs for poor children in countries that include Chile, Colombia, India, Ecuador, the Philippines and the United States. Besides providing media buying services, TDN also creates TV, direct mail and print creative for clients in a variety of industries.
Healthcare-advertising agency Dudnyk Healthcare Group entered into an agree ment with medical-education company MedForce to provide medical-education and marketing services. Under the agreement, the shop will primarily create print materials such as brochures, presentation slides and information packets for MedForce’s continuing-medical-education programs for physicians. MedForce, based in Doylestown, creates targeted educational strategies for healthcare marketers. It is a subsidiary of Call, also based in Doyles town, a provider of healthcare-sales and marketing services. Dudnyk Healthcare, which is headquartered in Horsham, has an office in San Francisco.
Schubert Communications was named public relations agency by National Software Testing Laboratories, a Conshohocken-based company that provides software and hardware testing and planning, as well as IT consulting. The Downingtown-based agency will design a B2B public relations plan to strengthen brand awareness and position the client as an expert in quality-assurance testing and third- party certification programs. The plan will target corporate buyers and developers of IT products.
