NEW YORK

A print campaign to back the August open ing of an Embassy Suites Hotel in downtown Chicago broke last week. The black-and-white executions from TBWA\Chiat\Day in New York will run in the Chicago Tribune, The Detroit News, Detroit Free Press, USA Today and Crain’s Chicago Business. The $165,000 effort carries the tagline, “Redefining the space that surrounds you,” with the message that as in downtown Chicago, everything happens on a larger scale at the new Embassy Suites.

Cohn & Wolfe formed a strategic alliance with Circulation Expertí, a Hartsdale-based public relations firm that specializes in African American and Hispanic markets. Cohn & Wolfe, a WPP Group unit, has offices in Atlanta, Austin, Texas, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Washington, and various cities worldwide.

Oink Ink Radio won a gold award in the “World Class Radio Promotion” category at the Promax and BDA Conference held in Miami Beach, Fla., on June 22. The production company, which has offices in New York and Santa Monica, Calif., received the award for a commercial it created for Jeopardy!, a King World Productions TV show. The 30-second spot, “Witch,” was one of several that Oink Ink produced for King World shows, including Hollywood Squares and Wheel of Fortune.

Robert A. Becker Euro RSCG formed Intera Interactive, a new division that absorbs existing unit e-Becker, which helped clients use technology for sales purposes, and I-Studio, the agency’s in-house, interactive creative-design and production division. Intera is headed by John Pal, chief strategic marketing officer. The new division provides e-business consulting, strategic planning, e-branding, Web site design and maintenance, digital production, data analysis and knowledge management, software and technology development, performance-measurement and presentation-development services. Robert A. Becker Euro RSCG, a unit of Euro RSCG, is a New York-based healthcare-marketing and strategic-communications company.

Washington Mutual, a Seattle-based financial-services company, signed an agreement with Sherwood Outdoor to advertise on three sides of the building at 1 Times Square in New York. Sherwood Outdoor, based in New York, rents, produces and installs billboards. The client’s 3-D signage is expected to be installed by August 1.

Courtney & Co., which provides brand design and marketing-communications services, created and executed a marketing plan for The Residences at the Ritz- Carlton, Grand Cayman. The New York agency’s plan included brand identity, collateral, promotions and advertising for the condominium units, which are part of The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman hotel resort, which is expected to be completed by mid-2003. The plan’s focus is pre-selling the condominium units. The shop was also tapped by Morgan Stanley Dean Witter & Co. to design the College SAVE Web site.

NEW JERSEY

A new campaign created by Winning Strategies Brand Communications promotes Camden County as a great place to live, work and raise a family. The brand campaign, “Camden County. Making it better, together,” broke last month and will run through May 2002. It includes TV and print work, which is appearing on billboards, Port Authority Transit Corp. station posters and NJ Transit buses. The agency, which specializes in consumer and business-to-business advertising, public relations, interactive and government communications, has offices in Mount Laurel, Newark and Washington.

TMP Worldwide Direct in Mount Olive was tapped to implement direct response, fulfillment and database-marketing programs for Safilo USA, a Parsippany-based unit of the Safilo Group, which produces and distributes spectacles, sunglasses and sports eyewear. The agency also was hired by Minolta Corp. in Ramsey to manage its Maxxum 7 and ImageSavers product-rebate promotion. The program, which includes direct mail, rolled out in June.

Idea Lab in Moorestown was hired to provide marketing support to the following companies: Empire Beef Co. in Roch ester, N.Y.; Home Health Corp. of America in King of Prussia, Pa.; DiBruno Bros. in Phil adelphia; Quickmortgageloan.com in Wyo missing, Pa.; Waytek in West Berlin; and Kaye Personnel in Cherry Hill. Idea Lab will create branding strategies for these clients, as well as provide package design, public relations, market research, collateral materials, media strategies, planning and buying.

PENNSYLVANIA

The Graduate and Professional Studies division of Cabrini College in Radnor hired Mayo Seitz Media in Blue Bell as its communications agency.

Media-services agency Harmelin Media, based in Bala Cynwyd, added the Pennsylvania Dutch Convention & Visitors Bureau to its client list. The agency will tout tourism in Lancaster County for the bureau. The account is worth $2 million.

Gary Baumgarten Layport created advertising and direct mail campaigns for MapInfo Corp., a global software-technology company based in Troy, N.Y. GBL is a Pittsburgh-based marketing-communications agency.

HMS Hallmark won an assignment from The Hoover Co. in North Canton, Ohio, to create a national TV spot touting the client’s multiple-brush scrubbing system in its Steam Vac extractors. The Pittsburgh-based advertising, marketing and public relations agency shows the system, which it has named SpinScrub, in 30- and 15-second versions that are running nationally on network and cable TV. HMS Hallmark is also creating a national consumer print campaign for Hoover to promote the company’s vacuum cleaners.

Stiegler, Wells & Brunswick, a marketing-communications agency headquartered in Bethlehem, changed its name to Stiegler, Wells, Brunswick & Roth to incorporate the name of nine-year partner Tom Roth. The shop also adopted a new logo and launched a new Web site. Swb&r has an additional office in Lancaster.

DELAWARE

Reese, Tomases & Ellick is working with nonprofit corporation WHYY on a new brand campaign that includes print and broadcast advertising, direct mail, program guides, building and vehicle signage, and stationery. The client operates TV12 and 91FM, public-broadcasting stations that serve southeastern Pennsylvania, Delaware and southern New Jersey. The marketing and brand-communications agency is based in Wilmington.
