5 Finalists Emerge for Maryland Tourism

ATLANTA At least finalists will vie for Maryland’s $5 million tourism advertising account, sources said.

Officials at the state’s division of tourism, film and the arts will hear presentations from The Campbell Group, gkv communications, Midian Communications and Havas’ Brann Worldwide, all in Baltimore, and Hermann Advertising and Design Communications of Annapolis.

The account includes creative and media buying, but, said a source, there is no commission on media buys. The account ‘s call center, publications and fulfillment services are all handled in-house.

“This used to be a procurement that was totally beyond reach for certain firms,” said Patrice Wallace, president and CEO of Midian, which is competing for the first time. “By de-bundling, the state is presenting more opportunities to more businesses.”

Baltimore incumbent Trahan, Burden & Charles is not defending.

Final presentations are scheduled for Nov. 12-14, sources said. A decision is expected by Dec. 1.
