3 Remain in Contention for Circuit City

NEW YORK Circuit City has narrowed its search for an agency to handle its $150 million broadcast creative business to three finalists, the consultant running the review has confirmed.

Interpublic Group’s McCann Erickson in New York , and independent shops Doner in Southfield, Mich., and The Richards Group in Dallas have advanced, said Hasan Ramusevic of Raleigh, N.C.-based consultancy Hasan + Co.

IPG’s The Martin Agency in Richmond, Va., withdrew last week, and Grey Global Group’s Grey in New York was cut, Ramusevic said.

Executives from the Richmond, Va., client met with the five semifinalists last week.

IPG’s Foote Cone & Belding in Chicago, was the incumbent and was being evaluated separately from the other contenders in a process also being run by Hasan + Co. FCB and the client mutually split last week, according to a client rep.

Among those involved in last week’s meetings was Ernie Speranza, former international chief marketing officer at Toys R Us, who joined Circuit City as its first CMO on April 19.

Final presentations are tentatively set for the first week of June with a decision the same week, Ramusevic said.
