The battle for last week’s morning show ratings title ended in a split decision. ABC’s Good Morning America averaged the largest total audience, while NBC’s Today show remained No. 1 among adults 25-54.
GMA hit a two-month high last week, both in total viewers (4.1 million) and in the key A25-54 demo (1.2 million). In addition to winning the week in total viewers, GMA is No. 1 morning show in total viewers for the 7th consecutive year and the sixth consecutive season.
Today show finished No. 1 among adults 25-54 for the 176th consecutive week, and once again gave GMA a run for its money in total viewers, losing by only 27,000. The NBC morning show actually won Monday, Wednesday and Thursday across the board. However, its losses among total viewers on Tuesday and Friday were too much to overcome.
The ABC and NBC morning shows had a pretty solid week relative to the comparable week last year. Not often do we write that these days. ABC was flat in total viewers, Today was actually +2% in total viewers, while CBS This Morning was -4%. In the A25-54 demo, GMA was -2%, Today -6% and CBS This Morning -10% vs. the comparable week last year.
Norah O’Donnell and John Dickerson say goodbye to CBS This Morning on Friday. O’Donnell moves to the CBS Evening News this summer, and Dickerson moves to 60 Minutes.
Anthony Mason and Tony Dokoupil joining Gayle King at the table in a full-time capacity this coming Monday.
