Here Are the Titles HBO Max Is Removing This Week

By Jessica Lerner

More content is being removed from HBO Max as 37 titles, including 20 HBO Max Originals, will leave the service this week.

The move comes after HBO Max shelved the nearly-complete $90 million feature Batgirl and Scoob!: Holiday Haunt, a follow-up to the 2020 film Scoob and quietly pulled TV shows and films from its streaming library over the past few weeks. More cuts were expected as Warner Bros. Discovery plans to merge its two streaming services–HBO Max and Discovery+–by the summer of 2023.

“As we work toward bringing our content catalogs together under one platform, we will be making changes to the content offering available on both HBO Max and Discovery+,” HBO Max said in a statement. “That will include the removal of some content from both platforms.”

HBO Max said it’s beginning to assemble its content libraries, including the recent debut of the CNN Originals Hub on Discovery+ and the impending arrival of Magnolia Network programming on HBO Max.

The teen drama Genera+ion, the adult animated comedy Close Enough and the kids’ late-night show The Not-Too-Late Show With Elmo are among the Max Originals leaving this week. Unscripted shows, such as Generation Hustle, Ellen’s Next Great Designer and Ravi Patel’s Pursuit of Happiness, and animated content, including Aquaman: King of Atlantis, the recently canceled Little Ellen, Odo, Summer Camp Island Tig n’ Seek and Yabba Dabba Dinosaurs, were also removed.

Summer Camp Island creator Julia Pott expressed her disappointment over HBO Max’s latest content purge. “We worked for 5 years to make 100 episodes of animation. We worked late into the night, we let ourselves go, we were a family of hard working artists who wanted to make something beautiful, and HBO MAX just pulled them all like we were nothing,” Pott wrote on Twitter. “Animation is not nothing!”

The streamer’s decision to remove Summer Camp Island suggests the series’ sixth and final season may not be released, but Pott is determined for those episodes to see the light of day.

Pott added: “We worked through the pandemic to make 20 linear episodes that are our most beautiful work yet. I cannot wait for you to see them. YOU WILL SEE THEM! I will not rest!”

HBO Max is offering a discount amid the content purge.
