The Ice Desk: It’s What Stations are Wearing this Winter

It seems a historical record of sorts is being created of what appears to be the recent trend of stations sending their anchors out into the freezing cold to report the news from behind desks made of ice.

With thanks to Poynter and TVSpy rival FTVLive, we cobbled together our own list of stations jumping on the ice trend.

We started our journey this year with Cleveland NBC affiliate WKYC.

Then Washington, DC, CBS affiliate WUSA got in on the act.

Here’s one from Green Bay FOX affiliate WLUK:


Providence NBC affiliate WJAR unveiled one for the Olympics.

Here’s proof everything old is new again, or in this case cold again.

This viewer is not impressed.

KARK,the NBC affiliate in Little Rock, AR, cut some raw footage together.

This man in front of the Pittsburgh NBC affiliate WPXI ice desk is clearly very excited and the tweet is promising hijinks.

WCNC, the NBC affiliate in Charlotte, was downright tame in comparison.

Atlanta’s NBC affiliate WXIA debuted theirs at the end of January, no doubt previewing what the area would look like in February.

KSTP the Minneapolis ABC affiliate also built a castle.
