Former WPIX reporter Rebecca Solomon is stuck in Israel with her family.
Solomon spoke to her former station on Monday and said they are doing the best they can.
“This is an absolutely horrific experience, and we’re just trying to take it minute by minute,” she told PIX11 News.
Solomon joined WPIX in 2019 and left last month. She told the station her family woke up to sirens on Saturday morning as the attack by Hamas began.
“We immediately went into the bomb shelter … you go in there for a few minutes, you come out and then the next siren goes off,” Solomon said. “When you’re on a break and there are no bombs coming down on you, you’re glued to the TV, and what you’re seeing down near Gaza … it’s just gut-wrenching.”
She said she went to Israel to celebrate holidays and to see friends and family and is now trying to get her family out of the country.
“We know right now there are no flights going out at this point but we’ll see what we can do in the next couple days when it’s safe,” she told News 12 on Saturday. “I don’t want to jeopardize my loved ones anymore. We’re in a safe place right now.”
