MSNBC has reportedly declined to renew the two-year contract of weekend progressive opinion host Tiffany Cross, and will part ways with her immediately.
Variety was first to report the decision, adding that Cross’ Saturday show production team was informed of the decision Friday morning and that a rotating group of MSNBC on-air talent will lead her program until a permanent replacement is found.
Cross’ political and cultural commentary program The Cross Connection has been airing on Saturdays from 10 a.m. ET to 12 p.m. ET since December 2020. Her program hosted a wide variety of thought leaders and journalists on a weekly basis and endeavored to highlight news about communities of color across the country.
Cross had been an MSNBC guest host, longtime political analyst and was formerly the D.C. bureau chief at BET.
According to Variety, MSNBC and NBC News execs grew increasingly concerned about Cross’ willingness to address statements made by conservative TV hosts on other networks, and executives felt she indulged in commentary that “did not meet the standards of MSNBC or NBC News.”
TVNewser could not independently confirm that.
MSNBC did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
