Morning Show Ratings: Week of July 1

By A.J. Katz

NBC’s Today took top honors across all relevant categories–including total viewers–this past week, doing so for the 12th time since September 2018.

The NBC morning show also won the key A25-54 demo for the week marking a record 184 straight weeks in the top spot.

Season to date, Today has closed the total viewer margin with GMA by -7% versus the same time last year.

Despite falling to second, GMA remains the most-watched morning show for the 7th straight year after finishing as the No. 1 for the last 6 seasons. In addition, the ABC morning show is cutting its season margins with “Today” for the 2nd straight season in adults 25-54 (-3%).

How did ABC, NBC and CBS perform this past quarter when compared with the same holiday week in 2018?

GMA was -% in total viewers, Today was -% in total viewers, while CBS This Morning was -%. In the A25-54 demo, GMA was -9%, Today was – and CTM -% vs. the same week in 2018.

CBS revamped its morning show back in May, and installed a new anchor team of Gayle King, Anthony Mason and Tony Dokoupil. The revamp and anchor switch still have yet to pay off in the ratings department, although it’s not totally fair to expect a ratings surge during the summer months when TV viewing is prevalent in general.

*Note: Due to the Independence Day holiday, GMA’s and Today’s weekly averages are based only on three days (Mon-Wed), while CBS This Morning’s weekly averages are based on just two days (Mon-Tues).
