Fox News on Fox Broadcast: Is It Time For A National News Broadcast?

By Brian

“This is a landmark moment,” a e-mailer said on Wednesday. “A couple of weeks ago, Roger Ailes was put in charge of all the local stations of Fox — many of whom have opposed a national nightly newscast using Fox News material because it is thought that it would cut into their local Simpsons/local news revenue. Ailes would not have been put over the stations group if that attitude wasn’t about to be changed.”

Look at the timing here: Fox News had 34 of the top 40 programs on all of cable last week. As a result, the e-mailer predicts “that we’ll see a lot more Fox News product on Fox Broadcast before the year is out.” Here’s the theory: “All that Fox Biz channel buzz has been intentionally generated to cover up the prep work necessary for a national news broadcast.”

Does this theory hold water? Will Shep Smith’s dreams come true? In July, he said he’d love to anchor an 11pm news show on the broadcast network. Would he have floated the idea without talking to his bosses first?
> Update: 7:42pm: “It ain’t going to be Shep…it is going to be Hume,” an anonymous tipster says…
