The South Korean survival series, created by Hwang Dong-hyuk, which premiered on Netflix in September 2021, stars Lee Jung-Jae as a divorced father with massive gambling debt who enters a competition with a series of deadly children’s games to win the equivalent of $38 million. Squid Game became a global phenomenon, pulling in over 1.65 billion viewing hours within its first four weeks. Netflix recently confirmed a Season 2 renewal and a reality competition show based on the series.

Stranger Things garnered 13 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series, but no acting, writing or directing nods. Its 12 other nominations were in the technical categories like makeup, production design, editing and stunt work.
