Snap Is Rolling Out New AR Glasses

Snap announced the first version of its Spectacles smart glasses to offer augmented-reality display as the technology has seen a boom in adoption amid quarantine conditions. (Adweek)

The new Spectacles are not available for purchase: They are being distributed to AR creators to help “reimagine the way we communicate, live and explore the world together through AR experiences built in Lens Studio.” The company introduced the next generation of Spectacles at the close of its Snap Partner Summit Thursday. The company revealed that Snapchat now tallies more than 500 million monthly active users, including nearly half of smartphone users in the U.S., adding that about 40 percent of its community is located outside North America and Europe. Growth in daily users in India has grown 100 percent year-on-year over the last five quarters. (Adweek)

The company also announced that it has paid out more than $130 million to 5,400 creators since launching Spotlight in November, including more than 250 people who have been paid more than $100,000. (THR)
