By Kyle O'Brien

David Webster has joined Ogilvy Consulting to lead a new technology practice that will bring together the global network’s talent, expertise and thought leadership.

Webster has over 25 years of experience spanning brand, business and digital strategy on both the agency and client side. Most recently, he spent seven years at McCann as executive vice president of strategy for the agency’s Verizon business.

Prior to McCann, Webster spent 15 years at Microsoft as the general manager of brand and marketing strategy for the tech giant. As the company’s chief marketing strategist, he helped Microsoft shape the product, brand and competitive marketing strategy for products ranging from Microsoft Office to Bing and Xbox. Earlier in his career David served as a managing director at Siegel + Gale.

“David’s extensive understanding of the telco and tech industries from a strategic business and brand perspective will make him an invaluable asset to our team. Given the influence of commerce, AI, MarTech and the ongoing need for transformation across various categories, he will play a crucial role as we advise our portfolio of clients,” said Susan Machtiger, president of Ogilvy Consulting, North America in a statement.

Webster praised Ogilvy’s history of building iconic brands along with the company’s ability to take tough strategic challenges and turn them into major opportunities for growth.

“It’s truly energizing to be part of a connected global community of people who are inherently curious and always looking for ways to help clients see around corners,” said Webster in a statement.

As Ogilvy builds the tech practice under Webster, he looks forward to tackling “crossing the chasm” in tech adoption, how tech addresses underserved audiences and what tech brands can learn from non-tech brands and vice versa.

“David’s experience and range of expertise will only further bolster our capabilities and the value we can provide across the C-suite,” added Devika Bulchandani, global CEO of Ogilvy in a statement.

In 2023, Ogilvy Consulting was recognized on Forbes’ list of the World’s Best Consulting Firms for the second consecutive year while the Financial Times included Ogilvy Consulting as one of its leading consultants for the sixth year running.
