22squared Hires Publicis.Sapient Veteran Josh Campo as SVP, Digital Managing Director

By Lindsay Rittenhouse

Atlanta- and Tampa-based creative agency 22squared announced the hiring of Josh Campo in the new dual role of senior vice president and digital managing director, effective immediately. Campo hails from Publicis.Sapient in New York, where he remained through various restructurings including the rebrand from SapientRazorfish, and most recently served as group vice president and global client lead.

Campo will be based out of the Atlanta office, while also overseeing the agency’s Tampa operations, and report directly to president Brandon Murphy. Campo’s hiring follows that of chief creative officer Matt O’Rourke in September. (He had been creative lead on Volvo. We’re told CCO John Patroulis is heading the account in his absence.)

“Over the last 10 years, 22squared has evolved into a digital-forward agency,” Murphy said in a statement. “But as we looked at the leadership team that drives our company, we were missing a strong voice regarding transformative technology. Josh’s ability to create and lead change through technology is extremely exciting for us and fills a critical missing piece for our organization. He aligns perfectly with our agency culture and purpose and truly desires to build something special here.”

In an effort to shift its approach on developing creative digital work, 22squared looks to blend traditional creative, strategy and experience with digital creativity and execution. The agency said it will task Campo with leading the development of “creative technology ideas [and] transformative technology solutions,” while further expanding its “digital backbone” and ensuring its delivery of work is done “in a smooth and efficient manner.”

“22squared has a highly unique and clearly embraced culture which I found extremely captivating,” Campo added in a statement. “I really feel like their key pillars of culture and independence are at the core of their focus on clients and people. I’m excited to join such a talented group of passionate people going great work delivering longterm value to clients.”

At Publicis.Sapient, Campo charged a team of more than 150 employees worldwide, managing creative, strategy, technology, program management, finance, operations and staffing. In 2016, he led the Samsung account, turning around the business and reinvigorating the client-agency relationship. Campo also spent time at SapientNitro, before it merged with sister shop Razorfish two years ago, as first technology manager before being promoted to director of technology and client services.
