NaNoWriMo 2016 Tip #7: The Characteristics of a Dystopian Story

By Maryann Yin

Are you writing a dystopian story for National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo)? The TED-Ed team has crafted a lesson on “how to recognize a dystopia.”

The video embedded above discusses the characteristics of dystopian stories. It also features references to Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, 1984 by George Orwell, and The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood.

This is our seventh NaNoWriMo Tip of the Day. To help GalleyCat readers who are taking on the challenge of writing a draft for a 50,000-word novel in 30 days, we will be offering advice throughout the entire month.
