Lena Dunham Pens a Post-Election Letter

By Maryann Yin

Lena DunhamLena Dunham has written a new letter in Lenny called “Don’t Agonize, Organize.” In this piece, Dunham shared her reaction to the results of the 2016 presidential election. Here’s an excerpt:

“The three hours I spent at the Javits Center Tuesday night, surrounded by campaign staffers and fellow surrogates for Hillary Clinton, are blurred and spotty. At a certain point it became clear something had gone horribly wrong. Celebrants’ faces turned. The modeling had been incorrect. Watching the numbers in Florida, I touched my face and realized I was crying.”

Dunham is not the only celebrity to publicize her thoughts on this subject. Recently, Jennifer Lawrence, an Oscar-winning actress, wrote an essay for Vice’s Broadly called “Don’t Be Afraid, Be Loud.” Within the literary community, several authors have shared reactions to this new political development with posts on their blogs and social media pages. Below, we’ve collected several messages from Twitter in a Storify post. How do you feel about the outcome of the recent presidential race?
