The Wrap reports that Emily Blunt, the star of the Into the Woods film adaptation, will play the magical singing nanny (who was originally portrayed by Julie Andrews). Rumors have been circulating that Lin-Manuel Miranda, the creator and star of the Hamilton musical, may take on the role of a lamplighter named Jack. This character bears many similarities to the chimney sweep played by Dick Van Dyke, Bert.

Here’s more from Variety: “John DeLuca and Marc Platt will serve as producers on the pic, with Into the Woods helmer Rob Marshall directing the film. Marshall will also produce. Insiders confirm the new film will take place in Depression-era London (when the books were originally written and 20 years after the first film was set) and will take story lines from P.L. Travers’ books focusing on Poppins’ continued adventures with the Banks family.” (via Broadway World)
