The city of Montgomery has dropped an assault charge against WSFA‘s Eileen Jones as the veteran reporter entered a guilty plea this week for a reduced charge stemming from an altercation with a police officer.

In June, Jones was arrested for running her car over a police officer’s foot as she approached the scene of a tanker truck accident. WSFA had assigned Jones to report live from the accident, where the overturned truck was leaking fuel. When Jones arrived at the scene, the officer moved to stop her. Jones drove her car forward, spraining the officer’s foot.

Jones was originally charged with misdemeanor assault as well as felony escape. The felony was eventually dropped and now Jones will receive legal closure in the case by paying a $500 fine.
