WIVB Lets Sports Director Go, Hires Sports Anchor

The sports department for Buffalo CBS affiliate WIVB is going into the NFL preseason a bit understaffed.

According to the Buffalo News, WIVB news director Scott Levy confirmed the station has let sports director Steve Vesey go.

The move comes a few days after WIVB hired Tom Martin from KATC in Lafayette, La. to replace Lauren Brill. Brill left the station in July. With Vesey’s departure, the station will be without a sports reporter or anchor until the new guy shows up next Tuesday.

Levy said that Martin will be the weekend anchor, which means the news director will be looking for a new weekday sports anchor and sports director.

Until Martin arrives, Levy said a sports photographer will provide the station’s sports coverage. That means the news anchors most likely will provide voiceovers of the sports footage shot by the photographer.
